A driving course provider is responsible for administrative functions for the driving safety course including issuing all certificates of completion to students and training all instructors. A driving course provider also ensures that the classes are provided by licensed schools and instructors who are qualified to teach the course.
Keep in mind a driving course provider is different than a driving safety school. A driving safety schools are responsible for providing the courses to the public. They must use one of the approved driving safety courses and follow all the course providers policies and procedures.
Driving Course Provider Curriculum
There is no standard curriculum that is required for each driving course presented by a driving course provider. The minimum standards for the driving safety course are provided in rules required by state law. There are variations permitted in many areas such as the sequencing of subjects, the type and quantity of audio-visual aids, and the manner in which the curriculum is taught (classroom and online).
When applying to be a driving course provider, you are required to send a $2,000 course provider fee with a course application. There are also other requirements and you would be wise to hold the $2,000 fee until they have been met. For example, you must have a driving safety school that is willing to teach your course and at least one driving safety instructor who is currently licensed and endorsed to teach your course.
